(From top left to right) the end of the Scranton Zinefest, two super cute creators of Brain Bug Magazine (Olivia & Jesse), the stage setup for SZF’s 5th birthday, some doodles from Alex Nall and me, Sean browsing a zine, showing support for the SZF

You know what they say…the third time’s a charm. I’m not exactly sure who “they” are, but “they” are right. Sean was able to table with me at this year’s Zinefest in Scranton, PA and we had an absolute blast. We met many interesting individuals and conversed with familiar zinesters as well. Did I mention the cake? Well, I’m getting to it. Hold on. Some of my favorite items this year were “Aloof” by Alex Nall, “YouTube Girl” by Olivia Knowles, and “Tattoos I Would Totally Get” by Katie Haegele. A handful of local musicians also performed throughout the festival. My favorite band was Pity Party, an all female shoe gaze, indie rock band from the area. They were a great end to the event. Now more about that cake…. We ate some delicious homemade birthday cake with purple frosting. It was a much needed for coffee deprived lady. Thanks to Jess Meoni and the staff who helped organized the event. See you all next year!

Based on what I know and have read about Tulsa, Oklahoma, it appears to be one of those big cities without much of an identity, or at least, without an interesting identity to outsiders. There are “boring” big cities all over the United States; for every New York, Los Angeles or Chicago there’s a Jacksonville, Charlotte or Tulsa, places that a lot of people live, but outsiders aren’t really sure why.
